How to filter and analyze global patch inventory

Patch Management

  • The 'Patch Management' area lets you install updates to the operating system and 3rd party applications on managed Windows devices.

  • By default, all available patches are displayed. Click the funnel icon on the right to filter patches.

  • This article explains how to access and use the patch inventory


Process in brief

  • Login to ITarian

  • Click ‘Applications’ > ‘Endpoint Manager’

  • Click 'Applications' > 'Patch Management'

  • There are two tabs:

    • Operating System – Lists available updates for Windows

    • Third Party applications – Lists updates for other applications on the endpoint

  • Click the funnel icon on the right to filter patches by various criteria

  • Select the patches you want to install then click the 'Install Patches' button

Process in more detail

  • Login to ITarian

  • Click ‘Applications’ > ‘Endpoint Manager’

  • Click 'Applications' > 'Patch Management'

  • Click either the 'Operating System' or 'Third Party Applications' tab




  • Sort patches by clicking the 'Installed'/ 'Not Installed' column headers



  • You can also filter patches by clicking the the funnel icon on the right.

  • This lets you filter patches by software/vendor name, install status, severity, bulletin/KB article and whether a reboot is required.




Update all devices

  • Use the check-boxes on the left to select all patches that you want to install

  • Click the 'Install Patch(es)' button. The patches will be deployed to all relevant devices:



Update specific devices

  • Click the number in the 'Upgradable Devices' column (3rd party apps), or 'Not Installed' column (OS patches).

  • Select the specific devices on which you want to install the patch

  • Click 'Install Patch(es)':



Column Headers

Title - Descriptive label of the patch. Click the name to view patch details.

KB - The knowledgebase article number for the patch. Click the number to view the article.

Bulletin - The Microsoft Bulletin number that contains details about the patch release. Click the number to view the bulletin.

Classification - Patch category. The possible values are:

  • Update - Fixes a specific non-critical problem, but not a security-related bug.

  • Definition update - Contains updates to a product’s internal database. For example, an update to the virus signature database for Windows Defender.

  • Critical Update - Fixes a specific critical problem but not a security-related bug.

  • Security update - Fixes a version specific, security related vulnerability.

  • Update rollup – Contains a collection of hotfixes, security updates, critical updates, and updates packaged together for easy deployment. These updates generally target a specific Windows component.

  • Driver - Adds software for controlling peripherals or add-on devices that could be connected to the endpoint.

  • Feature pack - Adds new functionality distributed after a OS release.

  • Service pack – A collection of hotfixes, security updates, critical updates, updates, and additional fixes.

  • Tool - Installs a utility or feature for a specific task or a set of tasks.

  • Upgrades - Upgrades the Windows OS version on the endpoint to the latest build.

Product - The Windows component to which the patch applies.

Severity - The criticality of the patch. The possible levels are:

  • Critical

  • Important

  • Low

  • Moderate

  • Unspecified

Reboot - Whether or not the endpoint requires a restart to complete the patch installation

Not Installed - The number of managed endpoints on which the patch is yet to be installed.

  • Click the number to view patch details.

  • The 'Device List' tab shows devices to which the patch is relevant. You can deploy the patch to those devices which need it.

Installed - The number of managed endpoints on which the patch has already been installed.

  • Click the number to view patch details.

  • The 'Device List' tab shows devices along with the installation status of the selected patch.

  • You can select devices on which the patch is required and start the installation process.

Release Date - The date on which the patch was released.
