How to modify the permissions of users in Endpoint Manager

User and Roles

  • The permissions of any Endpoint Manager user are determined by the 'Role' assigned to them.

  • Endpoint Manager ships with four default roles - 'Account Admin', 'Administrator', 'Technician' and 'Users'. Device owners are automatically given the 'Users' role.

  • You can create different roles with different access rights and assign them to users as required.

Process in brief:

  • Login to ITARIAN

  • Click ‘Applications’ > ‘Endpoint Manager’

  • Click ‘Users’ > ‘ Role Management' > 'Roles'

  • Click on a role name. You can configure the following:

    • Role Permissions - Enable or disable specific privileges

    • Assign Users – Choose members for this role. Click 'Assign to role' in the action column.

    • Access Scope – Specify which companies and groups the role can access:

      • ON – Role members can manage the company's devices. Privilege levels are set in the 'Role Permissions' tab

      • OFF – Role members cannot manage this company's devices

Process in detail

  • Click ‘Users’ > ‘ Role Management' > 'Roles'

  • Click a role name to view details of the role:

    • Role Permissions - Manage the privileges of the role

    • Assign users - Select members for the role

    • Access Scope - Specify which company's devices can be managed by this role

Assign a role to a user

  • Click 'Users' > 'Role Management'

  • Click on the name of a role > Click the 'Assign Users' tab

  • Click the 'Assign to Role' link to make the user a role member:

  • Click 'Users' > 'Role Management' > Click on a role name > Click 'Role Permissions'

  • The following table contains:

    • Permission - Name of the privilege. This matches the name in the 'Role Permissions' tab

    • Description - A short description of the permission

    • Feature Access Path - Location of the area in Endpoint Manager that is affected by the permission



Example 1. Remove the ability of the role to modify profiles

  • Click 'Users' > 'Role Management' > Click on a role name > Click 'Role Permissions'

  • Scroll to the 'manage.profiles' row

  • Switch the permission to 'Off'

  • Click 'Save'.

  • Users with this role will no longer see the 'Profiles' link under 'Configuration Templates':

Example 2. Remove the ability of a role to remotely access endpoints

  • Click 'Users' > 'Role Management' > Click on a role name > Click 'Role Permissions'

  • Scroll to the 'inventory.devices.actions' row

  • Switch the permission off:

  • Click 'Save'.

  • Users with this role will no longer see the remote control button in the 'Devices' area:
