  • This page explains how to password protect the communication and security clients on your managed endpoints.

  • Password protection means users will not be able to open the client interfaces to modify or disable settings you have implemented.
  • You need to add a 'Client Access Control' section to a profile to deploy this setting.

Password protect the Endpoint Manager clients

  • Open Endpoint Manager

  • Click 'Configuration Templates' > 'Profiles'

  • Make sure the page is open at the 'Profiles' tab:

  • Click on the name of the profile to which you want to add the new section

  • Click 'Add Profile Section' > 'Client Access Control':

  • This will open the access control config screen:

  • Apply password protection settings for – Select which clients you want to password protect:

    • Client – Security. Responsible for running antivirus scans, auto-containment, host intrusion prevention, and other security modules on the endpoint.

    • Client – Communication. Responsible for receiving and deploying commands from Endpoint Manager.

  • Require Password – Choose which types of credential will grant access to the client:

    • Computer Administrator - You can open the clients after providing the local admin password. This password may, of course, be different from one machine to the next.

      • Admins that are already logged-in can open the clients without providing their password again.

    • Custom Password - Create a custom password to access the clients locally. This password applies to all managed endpoints under the profile.

      • If 'Computer administrator' is not also selected, even admins will need to enter this password to access the clients.

The following tables show how the passwords work together for admins and regular users:

  • Extra Options:

    • Enable local user to override profile configuration – Preserve changes made to client settings IF a password was provided to make those changes.

Background - Endpoint Manager periodically checks endpoints to make sure client settings match those in the endpoint's profile. Under default settings, Endpoint Manager will revert any discrepancies, including manual changes. Enable this option if you do not want manual changes to be overridden. This is useful if you need to implement specific settings on a certain device.

  • Click 'Save' to apply your changes.

The following prompt is shown when an unverified user attempts to access a client:
